Why thermal imaging inspections are crucial in Auckland

12/23/2015

When it comes to assessing the conditions of a home or building, what we see is not always what we get.  Even if you were to scrutinise every corner of the structure, it would still not be enough to identify potential problems with insulation, moisture leaks and electrical faults.

The only way to see more than what’s visible with the naked eye is to undergo a Thermal Imaging inspection.  With specialised infrared technology, Heat Seekers can detect and measure the severity of heat and moisture-related issues.

Servicing the Auckland region, Heat Seekers can identify structural and electrical concerns that wouldn’t otherwise be noticed until damage begins to occur.

Much like a car, minor issues can turn into major problems if left un-repaired.  You wouldn’t drive around for long with a cracked windscreen, would you?  We all know that even the smallest of cracks can spread quickly, but unlike cars, potentially dangerous issues in the home are far less obvious.

When the visible signs of moisture intrusion, insulation voids and hot electrical components begin to show, it is often too late and the cost to repair rises exponentially.

Heat Seekers can see what you can't

Damage may already be occurring in the home, but it is unlikely that you would pick this up early enough without a certified Thermal Imaging inspection.  Our licensed Thermographers have a vast amount of experience in predicting and diagnosing problems in those hard-to-reach areas.

Thermographic investigations can detect a range of potentially damaging issues including:

•    Moisture issues in the ceiling, under carpet or behind walls
•    Electrical faults in switches, motors, fuses, transformers, circuit breakers, control equipment and circuit operating devices
•    Wet or poor insulation in roofing and walls
•    Structural issues in the exterior, interior, joinery and roofing

Thermal Imaging inspections are more than just a snapshot with an infrared camera; they are full reports that detail each and every part of a building.  We not only provide necessary testing, but  we also offer effective solutions if an issue were to arise.

The thermographic image below shows the difference between what a ceiling leak looks like with Thermal Imaging equipment compared with the naked eye.  Structural damage has begun to occur and the amount of moisture is creeping quickly across the ceiling.  You can’t see it, but with specialist thermographic equipment, Heat Seekers can.

Things are not always as they seem

Imagine having just moved into your dream house only to find that it can’t be heated properly or that your power bills since last winter have become unmanageable without reasonable explanation.

You may not be able to see it yet, but these are clear signs that something is wrong.

Chances are, there is an insulation void somewhere, but how do you find where it is without tearing down the walls?  You don’t have to resort to this kind of drastic measure.  Non-invasive inspections will tell you everything you need to know.

Don't wait for mould to appear - take action

Mould is the most common visible sign of poor insulation and moisture issues.  Unfortunately, the presence of mould is a sign of more significant insulation issues.

The thermal image below shows a severely leaky window detected by Heat Seekers.  Although we can’t see any anomalies with the naked eye, the Thermal Imaging inspector has identified a large and very concerning area of poor insulation and water damage.

The fact that everything appears to be normal, doesn’t mean we should assume it is.  Leaving a leak like this for too long can not only cause structural damage and can also cause a range of health and respiratory issues.

Thermographic inspections are the best prevention

Overall, Thermal Imaging inspections can be your best chance of preventing a minor issue from becoming a major concern.  Early detection or preventative maintenance are the best ways to save time and money.
Fast, accurate and non-invasive, a Thermal Imaging inspection from Heat Seekers can see what would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

We pride ourselves in giving friendly and professional advice.  Head over to our testimonials page and see how appreciative our clients are.

Make the invisible visible and give us a call and book an appointment for an accurate and informative Thermal Imaging inspection.
